Newbury Park, CA. MDK/Wonder Warthog Racing (WWR) Team Captain Heath Voss made the main again, keeping him in the hunt for Privateer of the Year honors. Ryan Mills, the MDK Speed demon, rode a great first race in Atlanta, eventually finishing 13th.

The night started off on the wrong foot as no MDK/WWR riders qualified from the Heats, due to bad starts and crashes. An unfortunate crash between Heath Voss and Manu Rivas on the last lap took both from contention. Although to the untrained eye it looked somewhat like a takeout move, the facts showed that Heath had lost control in the run up to the turn and had nowhere to go, hence the crash.

The Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQ) went much better for the team. New MB2/WWR/Procircuit/MDK team member Chris Gosselaar pulled the holeshot in the Supercross class and went on to win the $750 RacerX Gas Card. Heath Voss took the point position quickly and pulled away for an almost start to finish LCQ win. In Lites action, Ryan Mills ripped in the LCQ, coming from way back to finish 3rd.

In the main events, Heath, after a terrible start, picked off riders one by one, until he found himself in 11th place. Unfortunately he lost his rear brake on the last few laps and dropped back to 12th. Ryan Mills, sporting the RXR Protect air chest protector, also suffered a bad start but worked his way up to 13th by the end of the main.

Of the 9 MDK/WWR riders pitted out of the DeCal Works Hog Haven, 7 made the evening program. Joining Voss, Gosselaar and Rivas, in the Supercross class was the famous 41 year old veteran Barry Carsten. Tyson Hadsell and Danny Smith also made the night show in the Lites class, joining Ryan Mills in a stacked field. Mike McDade and TJ Tiffany didn’t make the night show.

The Ride Smooth Award, presented by Smooth Industries, went to Ryan Mills as the top Lites finisher.

RXR Protect Race Director, Chris Favro, said, “Atlanta was awesome. Ryan Mills made it into the main wearing his RXR chest protector and Heath as always was strong. Seeing the display of privateer support from MDK/WWR is inspiring and we look forward to supporting the privateers through their program”

Catch the MDK/WWR juggernaut in Indianapolis, CA on March 1st and remember to support your local privateer!
